Fractures of the patella.

چکیده
THIS paper records an attempt made in 1956 to evaluate the long-term results of repair and excision of the fractured patella in an area where displaced transverse fractures were repaired and displaced comminuted fractures were excised. It is not a common injury. The Sunderland Hospitals serve some 400,000 people, but we were able to collect only 76 cases requiring operation between I936 and 1956 and of these we interviewed 34 patients; 52 of the fractured were transverse and 24 were comminuted-58 occurred in men and i8 in women. There was a peak in the incidence of transverse fractures of the patella between the ages of 6o and 70 years, suggesting that the patella became more brittle with advancing years. There was another peak between 20 and 30 years, probably due to the increased muscular activity of the individual during this decade. Comminuted fractures occurred mainly between the ages of 20 and 6o years.

Simultaneous, Isolated Traumatic Bilateral Patella Fractures
INTRODUCTION Isolated traumatic fractures of both Patellae, occurring at the same time, in an otherwise healthy person, are very rare. The Patella, as a subcutaneous and a cancellous bone, is vulnerable to injury. However, simultaneous injury to both Patellae without the involvement of any other bony injuries occurs infrequently, and only a few cases have been reported in the literature. CASE...
متن کاملCurrent Treatment Strategies for Patella Fractures.
Patella fractures can be caused by excessive tension through the extensor mechanism or a direct impact. Non-displaced fractures with an intact extensor mechanism can be treated nonoperatively. Surgical treatment is recommended for fractures that either disrupt the extensor mechanism or have greater than 2 to 3 mm of step-off and greater than 1 to 4 mm of displacement. Tension band fixation is t...
متن کاملNovel Anterior Plating Technique for Patella Fracture Fixation.
Patella fracture fixation remains a significant challenge for orthopedic surgeons. Although tension band fixation allows for reliable osseous union, especially in simple fracture patterns, it still presents several problems. Plate fixation of patella fractures is a method that allows for more rigid stabilization and earlier mobilization. At the authors' level 1 trauma center, one fellowship-tra...
متن کاملFractures of the patella in children and adolescents.
Fractures of the patella in children and adolescents are rare injuries with particular characteristics. The aim of this study was an analysis of epidemiology, treatment strategy and outcome of this injury. Between 1992 and 2006 all fractures of the patella in patients with an age 5 16 years were included in a case control study. Besides outcome analysis using the modified HSS knee score, radiol...
متن کاملSerial Radiographs Showing Progression of a Patellar Stress Fracture and Beneficial Surgical Technique for a Displaced Patellar Stress Fracture
Stress fractures of the patella occurring in athletes are quite rare and only 23 cases have been introduced in English literatures. Stress fractures of the patella are classified into two types: transverse and longitudinal. They are mostly seen in the distal one-third of the patella on a plain lateral radiograph. We present here a 16-year-old female basketball player with a stress fracture of t...
متن کاملPercutaneous cerclage wiring for the surgical treatment of displaced patella fractures
The patella plays an important role in the knee joint extension, and a patella fracture requires surgical treatment when it is accompanied by displacement of bone fragments and a joint surface gap. In patella fractures, there is disruption of the soft tissue structures that support the knee extension mechanism. We use a method of percutaneous cerclage wiring to fix the patella and include the p...
